Chapter 13-Honest Loot from "Walter Scott"

Chapter 17-The Grangefords take me in
Summary - The grangefords take huck in after they realize hes not a sheperdson
Chapter18- Jim finds Huck both sheperdsons die.
How I see Huck and Jims relationship is being very restricted and limited ,yes Jim did happenn to runaway the same night Huck faked his death. But Hucks inbetween he wants to genuinely care for Jim but the fact that hes black Huck treats him as what he was back then. For example when he tried to fool Jim about him being lost he thought that Jim wasn't going to be smart enough to know the difference from from the truth and a lie.
Its Something about Huck that allows himself to be friends with Jim and thats because half of him wants to genuinely love and befriend jim. But whats going on in his environment with the white and black situation is holding him to be very small minded. One thing i can say is Huck keeps his promise nomatter what who it is nomatter the color of their skin. I say this because when those guys asked him about the color of the mans skin on the boat he answered "White"He didn't sell Jim out even though he thought about it.
Question 1-Why is it so hard for Huck to understand the reason for Jims "run-off" isnt because of him?
Question 2-Does the whole trying to fool Jim about being lost in the fog indicate that he treats Jim like a slave or like he isn't worth the truth?
Mark Twains opinion of the Grangefords and shepdersons to me is that basically its an old fued and noone really knows how it started. I guess the opinion is that their just stuck in their ways.
you did really good on this, I would just try and make my summaries a little longer and descriptive. other than that there nice, and I think you forgot to do chapter 18 summary.
Deleteno i did it. I just didn't put the word summary after it. but thank you ill work on them.
DeleteChapter 13
ReplyDeleteHuck and Jim sneak on to the robber’s boat and start heading down the river. Huck feels bad because he left them stranded on the shipwreck he never set out to be a murderer but that’s how it’s looking now. They find there raft later on down stream, Huck finds a ferry watchmen, convince him his family is on the sinking ship. They go back sink the ship, it starts heading down stream and there’s no sign the robbers are alive.
Chapter 14
Jim and Huck find valuables inside the wrecked ship they find books, clothes, and cigars. Before they start there next water journey Huck starts to read the books and make up his own stories.
Chapter 15
Huck and Jim get split up in the fog; Huck tries to trick Jim by pretending that Jim dreamed up their entire separation. Jim gets kind of mad, so Huck says that he would’ve never joked around with him if he knew he would take it that serious and be that mad.
Chapter 16
Huck comes upon some men in a boat who want to search his raft for escaped slaves. Convince them that they were really sick so they back off and give those 40 in gold. Huck and Jim pass several towns soon to worry that they have passed Cairo in the fog. They stop for the night and take the canoe upriver, but in the morning discover that it has been stolen. They claim its continued bad luck from the snakeskin on Jackson’s Island. Later, a steamboat collides with the raft, breaking it apart. Jim and Huck dive off in time but are separated. Huck makes it ashore, but stumbles upon a pack of dog’s corners him.
Chapter 17
Huck gets saved by someone who called off the dogs so they wouldn’t attack him who was soon introduced as George Jackson. George takes Huck into his house after realizing he’s not a Shepherdson, they tell him he is welcomed to stay for as long as he needs to.
Chapter 18
Huck admires Colonel Grangerford, the master of the house. The colonel owns a very large estate with over a hundred slaves. Huck gets introduced to the Grangerford family. Meeting a girl named Sophia. Buck tries to shoot a young man named Harney Shepherdson but misses. He than explains to Huck the beef between the two families.
Huck’s slave valet leads Huck deep into the swamp and tells Huck he wants to show him some water moccasins. Huck finds Jim there, and was very surprise. Jim says that he followed Huck to the shore the night they got wrecked. Some slaves found the raft, but Jim reclaimed it by threatening the slaves and telling them that it belonged to his white master. Huck finds out Sophia Grangerford has run off with Harney Shepherdson. In the woods Huck finds Buck and a nineteen-year-old Grangerford in a gunfight with the Shepherdson’s. Both of the Grangerfords are killed. Huck heads for Jim and the raft, and the two head downstream.
1. Mark Twain's opinion of the Shepherdsons and Grangerfords is that they are just a big rivalry and each household thinks there better then one another.
2.Huck and Jims relationship I think is very strong because they look out for one another and try and keep each other safe. I think Huck is allowed to have such a relationship with Jim because there both alike abandoned and felt unworthy and now there both on there own and all they have is each other.
My two questions
Delete1.) how will seeing the two Grangerfords get killed effect how they see the real world? will they be more aware ?
2.) will Jim get abducted into the colonel's slavery estate?
I like your summaries and I think that your a doing a great job!

DeleteThe adventures of Huckleberry Finn chapter (13-18)
ReplyDeleteChapter 13 - Huckleberry and Jim ended up robbing Packard and Bill for the goods they robbed someone else for! And Huckleberry was crying and being emotional about his family. (Pap, Mom, Sister)
Chapter 14 - They set back enjoying all the goods they took from the robbers. They disputed if King Solomon wise because he didn't use his power for good at all! He used it for minor necessities!
Chapter 15 - Huck was trailing behind the raft that Jim was on and fooled Jim into thinking he was crazy because Jim could of sworn Huck was away, but Huck makes him believe he was drunk enough not to remember. Jim interpret the whole "DREAM" and catches the trick Huck is trying to play on him, catching Huck in a lie.
Chapter 16 - Huck and Finn fool some men to put up money for Huck's pap thinking he has small pox and they went on looking for free states. Huck was thinking about turning in Jim as a run away bigger for money but then he didn't because of his guilty conscience.
Chapter 17 - Jim and Huck fell over board off the raft, and Huck swam two mile to Shore, Jim never appeared. Walking along shore Huck was stopped by dogs and men was asking him questions from a wooden cabin. A family called Grangerfords take in Huck as one of their own and makes him feel at home.
Chapter 18 - Huck was introduced to the Grangerford family and he meets a girl named Sophia. The family owns over a hundred slaves and own a large estate. Buck spots a Shepherdson named Harney, and tried to shoot him. Then, he explains the dispute between the two families. After that, Huck was showm the the water moccasins where Huck had found Jim, Jim said he had follow Huck after the raft wreck. Sophia Grangerford ran off with Harney Shepherdson. Two Grangerford were killed in a gun fight with Shepherdson, after that Huck went back for Jim and the raft and left.
1.Mark Twain's opinion between Shepherdsons and Grangersfords is that they have a big rivalry and they both think that they are better then each other.
2. Huck and Jim relationship I think it is shaky but at the same time strong because they both look out for each other. They both relate with each other not having a family to love them and they were treated uselessly. So that brings them together.
Questions***

and he asks why and then he finds out that there is actually a war between the Grandfords and Shepherdsons. That is when Sophia Grandford runs off with Harney Shepherdson and Buck gets into a gun fight with them and they all end up being killed.
1.I think Mark Twains opinion is that its a crazy war and the both families think they have it all.
2. Huck and Jim's relationship is really good and there their for each other and they understand each other. What allows Huck to be friends with Jim is that Jim admits to him that Huck is the only friend he ever had.
Will the fight between the families stop in the future?
Will Jim be found and if Jim is found Will Cairo be found ?
Question Peers:
What I see between the families is they are probably going to stop there fight so that none of the loved ones are killed.
I think they will find Cairo because they will probably get the help from the people around them.

Does Twain portray the Shepherdsons and the Grangerfords positively or negatively? What does he seem to be saying about such feuds?
ReplyDeleteAs for Huck and Jim's relationship - yes, it is conflicted. Huck is pulled in 2 different directions: his society tells him that Jim is property, but his heart tells him that Jim is a person, so Huck goes back and forth between these two positions. Pay attention in the reading to see which side wins out.

Huck and Jim’s relationship.
Huck and Jim’s relationship is like a good-bad relationship. They have their arguments and all but, besides that they know they still have to look out for each other. ReplyDeleteYou need to read more carefully. In chapter 15 Huck tricks Jim, and then feels how? Why is that a big deal? Chp 16 - Jim is not married to Miss Watson - she owns him. Chp 18 - you did not read the entire chapter - you missed some very key events.
ReplyDeleteThe Shepherdsons and the Grangerfolds are two families that don’t like each other. This rivalry reminds me of the story Romeo and Juliet. I say this because both stories are about two different families and both families think they are better than the other. This is how I believe Mark Twain looks at the two families.
ReplyDeleteJim and Huck has a good friendship because they were both treated like they were abandoned. Huck’s dad abandoned him, and Miss Watson abandoned Jim. This helps their friendship because they both know how it feels to be abandoned. Since they’ve run away together, if someone gets abandoned then they will probably get caught. This makes them want to help each other because they can finally have somebody to depend on.
When will Jim and Huck meet up again?
What will Jim and Huck do with the things that they found?
