Chapter 5- Pap starts in on a new life\ Summary- Hucks father comes back in town and the judge tried to make him a better man. Questions-What does it mean when Huck says lick him? Why doesn't Hucks father want the best for his son?
Great insights into the characters of Huck and Tom! Also, great questions about Huck's dad - you would think that a father would want what is best for his son. What is our opinion of him when we see that he doesn't? In the future you need only write 2 questions total, not 2 for each chapter
My opinion of Pap is just unsympathetic because I feel as though he wants his son to be just as bummy and gross as he is. Kind of like I messed up my life so here your life is going to be just as bad. I don't think Pap had guidance as a child nor did anyone support him like he wanted, so he gave up. He sees what he could have been through Huck.
Chapter 1: Discover Moses and The Bulrushes. In chapter one Huckleberry is dealing with Miss Watson and The Widow bothering him at home. Huckleberry listens to the nature try to talk to him and tall him things when he kills a spider and feels that he got bad luck because of it. When he leaves the house he sees Tom waiting for him.
Chapter 2: Our Gangs Dark Oath. In chapter two Tom takes Huckleberry and some other guys through a big hole underground into a secret room and they start a gang. They come up with things to do as a gang and sign with blood to take a oath.
Chapter 3: We Ambuscade the A-rabs. In Chapter three Huckleberry resigned from the gang since the gang doesn't do anything and Tom lied about The diamonds and A-rabs. Huckleberry begins to pray but doesn't believe in it so he stops. Huckleberry worries where his dad is.
Chapter 4: The Hair-ball Oracle. In chapter four Huckleberry went to see Judge Thatchers and tries to give all his money to him. Huckleberry talks to Jim and Jim gives him a fortune about his dad and his future.
Chapter 5: Pap starts in on a new life. In Chapter five Huckleberry's father come back and first threatens Huckleberry. Then after The Widow and Miss Watson try to take Huck away from his father and get denied the judge tries to turn Huck's father into a good person but after a while Huck's father goes back to drinking and gets injured.
Compare and Contrast. Huckleberry is a smart, curious, stays to himself, he doesn't care about much and he's rich but doesn't really have a family besides his dad but Tom has a family, he lies, is dangerous and Tom seem's like he is a bad guy who likes to prank people but Huck isn't like any of that. They seem like they always want to be with each other and they are very close.
Description of Jim. Jim is a slave, he talks to objects and seem like he believes in witchcraft. Jim isn't educated, he changes his stories a lot, stretches the truth, and is very popular all around. He wears a string around his neck he says is "touched by the devil". Jim is a good guy.
2 Questions. 1. What happened to Huckleberry's family? 2. Where did Jim get that string around his neck from?
Good job on your summaries. You include all the key information and are not distracted by unimportant details. Your observations about Huck, Tom, and Jim are very good. You've picked up on all their key characteristics so far.
Chapter one: It's talking about a boy named Huck who is taken care of Ms.Watson and a widow who tells him a lot of stuff.Later on Huck hears 12 shots and than heard a noise so when he went out the house he see's Tom.
Chapter 2: In this chapter Huck and Tom come up with a gang called Tom sawyer with some other guys and they read a oath. They start talking talking about robbery an if they should kill people.
Chapter 3: The gang is going nowhere and they are just faking it all. They try to robb a place but it didnt work so Huck just left the gang. Chapter 4: 3-4 months pass by and Huck starts going to school and gets better at reading and writing.Huck offers the money back to the judge but he doesnt take it and than he finds his dad in the room.
chapter 5: Huck's dad starts telling him tht he should get out of school and stop learning how to ready and write.Than Mswatson tries to get Huck from his father but the judge says to make a change in his father. After he tried to change but than he started drinking again.
Compare and Contrast: Huck is a really nice person, who has a lot of money,an he tries to learn but than there is Tom who is just a bad influence on Huck, bad, and is nothing but trouble. Jim: Jim is a weird guy who has a necklace that is really important because the devil gave it to him an if you touch it.You die and people pay money just to see it but he bieleves in a lot of things like witchcraft an stuff. 2 Questions: -Why us Tom the way he is? -Why is Jim so weird and is the devil thing true?
Chapter 1: Huckleberry Finn, introduces the reader to his personality and way of life. He also gives the reader a glimps of the Window Douglas and Miss Watson and the ways they want to change him.
Chapter 2: Huckleberry introduces the reader to Miss Watson's slave, Jim. The reader also meets Tom Sawyer's Gang, who are friends of Tom and Huck who want to become a band of robbers.
Chapter 3: Lets the reader learn more about Tom Sawyer and his adventurous mind. Huck on the other hand, is very skeptical about certain things that people tell him.
Chapter 4: Huck begins enjoy the life he is living with widow Douglas and Miss Watson. Miss Watson's slave, Jim, tells Huck his fortune.
Chapter 5: Huck's father shows up in the room Hucks staying in and it appears he wants to be a goodman now. However, by the end of the chapter it is clear he is not ready to change his life around.
**Questions : Why is Huckleberry Finn considered "uncivilized" ? & Why does Huck start liking his new life?
Compare and Contrast: Tom and Huck are both orphans. However, Tom is very jealous of Huck's freedom in life. Huck doesn't live by any rules. For example, he sleeps wherever he pleases, moves around the town freely, and wears comfortable clothes. On the other hand, Huck, looks up to Tom because Tom lives a better life. Tom is much more educated, raised in a home where he was dearly loved, and Tom is very sophisticated.
Describe Jim: Jim is very superstitious. He may be a slave of Miss Watson, but he is still a very intelligent man. Jim happened to be great story teller, in fact, slaves came from all over just to here him tell his stories.
Good questions! Whether Huck is "sivilized" or not is a key part of this book. You are right about most things you said in your comparison/contrast of Huck and Tom, except that Tom is not an orphan. I agree with you that Jim is intelligent, but what did you read in the book that made you think that? Jim is a controversial character - many people think he is just a buffoon - I'm glad you picked up on his intelligence.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn summaries Chapter 1 - Tom Sawyer is forming a band of robbers and would probably let Huck join off he goes back with the widow, so he did. He talks about not going whether he goes to heaven or Satin's head quarters. (Hell)
Chapter 2 - Miss. Watson's servant Jim (African-American) told stories about how he witches took him nearly all around the world, working him to almost sudden death. Tom Sawyer created the robber gang (Tom Sawyers Gang) and made oaths saying who ever joins the gang kill a family member, sign the treaty with blood, and most follow all rules he sets because he is the leader.
Chapter 3 - Huckleberry talks about how he doesn't miss his father, and hopes he didn't show back up. Tom liked about Spaniards coming with elephants, mules, camels, diamonds. He says Magicians had teased them and turned everything into a class picnic out of spite because they claim they are enemies with the Tom Sawyer gang.
Chapter 4 - Huckleberry visited Judge Thatcher because he had to give Huckleberry's investments of six thousand dollars, and Huckleberry took in advice about look after other people and gave the money to Judge Thatcher for good luck. The hair-ball tells Jim that Huckleberry's dad doesn't know whether if he might stay or not. His dad has two angels hovering over him, one would tell him to do the right thing (White Angel) and the other one is influencing him to do the wrong thing.(Black Angel)
Chapter 5 - Huckleberry's father came back into town and actually seen his son for the first time of so many years, talking about wanting to collect the six thousand dollar Judge Thatcher has for Huckleberry's investments, but mind you Huckleberry gave the money to Judge Thatcher for good luck. Huckleberry's dad threatened to tan him (beat him) if he doesn't act right in school and if he doesn't raise money raise money for him. A new Judge comes to town and takes Huckleberry's father into his home to have him change his ways and form him into a man that no one will ever be ashamed of.
Compare and Contrast Tom and Huck Finn (Tom) Believes in sticking strictly to the rules. Very cruel. Brought up in a comfort. Self centered (Similarities) Same age, Both are parentless (Huck) Raised with discomfort, Helping, Giving, He makes rules of his own and rebels on what others tell him what to do.
(Describe Jim): Jim is a spiritual man, he is looked up to him because he was an quest with witches. They nearly worked him to death, he is a mentally tough man. He is so good a story telling, African Americans from different parts would walk miles to hear the stories.
Great work! Your comparison/contrast of Huck and Tom is good - you got most of the key attributes. What about when it comes to education/intelligence - are they similar or different?
Chap 1- Huck doesn't seem to get along with his aunt. Then Tom Sawyer appears and wants to create a gang.
Chap 2- Jim was telling stories of how he was being taken by witches and how it almost killed him. Then they had a treaty on having to kill a person in your family.
Chap 3-Hick was told that there were Spaniards and that were going to be diamonds, armies and animals. When the gang arrives they saw children and they realize that it was a Sunday School.
Chap 4- Huck finds his dad's footsteps on the snow and goes to see Jim. Jim tells him that his dad is going to marry a poor woman and then a rich woman etc.
Chap 5- The dad was in Huck;s room and was threatening to hit him if he didn't leave school and if he didn't get his money back from the judge. At the end Huck;s dad was drunk and the judge tried to help him and then thats when Huck;s dad starts to weep saying he would try to be a good father.
Huck and Tom are similar because they want to be like each other and they have no parents. The difference is that Tom knows how to read and write and Huck really doesn't.
Jim is a very different odd man and extremely superstitious. People really find him appealing because of his stories and they want to hear them.
Why is Jim so superstitious? Why does Huck try so hard to be Tom?
Your summaries are very good - very brief, and yet you pick out just the key points of the chapter. I'd like you to add more to your comparison/contrast of Huck and Tom as well as your description of Jim.
Chapter 1: In chapter one we are introduced to huck finn and we are informed he is being raised by widow douglas. Widow Douglas makes Huck act very different from himself. At the end of the chapter Huck notices Tom Sawyer
Chapter 2: Ms Watson's slave Jim is introduced in this chapter. He tells stories about his beliefs. Tom sawyers gang is introduced and they talk about robbing people and killing them.
Chapter 3: Huck left the gang after realizing they were just pretending. Huck also explains how he doesn't care where his father is and he hopes he never see's his father again.
Chapter 4: Huck begins to get use to his new clean different life. Huck senses he has bad luck. Huck wants to give judge thatcher all of his 6000 dollars.
Chapter 5: Huckleberry's father comes back to see him and wants to take his 6 thousand dollars. Pap pleads that he is an changed man but later goes back to drinking.
2 Questions: Why does Hucks father beat Abuse huck? Why doesn't Huck have other family?
Compare and Contrast: Huck and Tom both don't have parents(Compare: Huck is more adventurous while Tom is more uptight
Jim Description: Jim is a very religious and spiritual Guy. He is very hardworking he is a slave and tell many good stories.
Good job on your summaries - very concise and focused on the main parts of the chapter. I want you to develop your character descriptions, though. Why do you say Huck is more adventurous than Tom? (cite textual evidence). How else are they different?
Chapter 1: In the first chapter of the book Huck is living with Widow Douglas. He doesn't feel comfortable and wants to go back to his rags and smoking. Also his sister MS.Watson comes and tries to help him.
Chapter 2: In chapter 2 Tom sawyer and his gang in introduced. They talk about how they kill people and commit different crimes. Also Huck joins the gang.
Chapter 3: In chapter 3 Huck decides to leave the gang. He also talks about his father and from my perspective Huck does not want his father back in his life.
Chapter 4: In chapter 4: Huck starts to like the way he is living. He also sees footprints int he snow while walking and finds out they were Pap's.
Chapter 5: Huck's father comes to visit him and wants his money. Huck pleads that he has no money on him so his father takes all he has and goes to get drunk.
2 questions: Will Huck build a better relationship whit his father? Why does Huck try to be like Tom?
Huck and tom both don't have parents and Tom knows how to read and write better then Huck.
People find Jim very interesting because of the stories he has to tell.
Good job with the summaries. You are able to be brief and stick to the main points. Good question about Huck trying to be like Tom! How else are Huck and Tom different? What else can you say about Jim?
This book is about Huckleberry’s adventure which one day Huck, and Tom found a bag of money that the robbers hidden in the cave, and Huck and Tom splitted the money six thousand dollar a piece. They also used the money when they needed it. Tom, Huck, and the other boy made a gang which then they made an oath that who ever told on their secret the gang will have to kill the kid’s parents. Huck’s father hasn't been seen for a year which Huck doesn't want to see him anyway. The boys Huck, Tom, and the rest of the gang have been playing robbers for a month then they resigned. When Huck went t the Judge thatcher, the judge told him he had a fortuntion of a hundred dollar or more, then Huck told judge to take his money the hundred dollar and also the six thousand dollar.
-2 questions: why didn't Tom and Huck return the money to the police?
-Why did Tom, Huck, and the other kids want to rob people and kill them?
Tom doesn't have parents and Huck have only a father, but Huck does not have a strong relationship with his father, and also Tom could read and write better then Huck.
Jim is guy who likes to tell stories about how he is brave and all that other stuff.
Good job with comparing and contrasting Tom and Huck - you picked up on a couple of key differences. When you write your summaries, do 1-2 sentences per chapter rather than one paragraph for all the chapters.
Chapter 1: Huckleberry Finn feels as if Miss Watson and the Widow are bothering him. They try to teach him new things but, he quickly loses interest such as he does with learning about Moses but, does learn how to read. He tries listening to nature but, as he attempts get shivers. He then leaves the house and notices Tom waiting for him.
Chapter 2: As Tom and Huckleberry Finn are sneaking out of The Widows garden they almost get caught by Jim but, he falls asleep so they’re able to make a stealthy escape. Tom, Huckleberry Finn and a few others take a boat out to this cave to discuss the name of their gang. To ensure loyalty to Tom Sawyer’s gang the members were forced to sign a blood oath and agree to kill the family of who that reveals secrets of the gang.
Chapter 3: After Huckleberry Finn gets his clothes dirty he gets punished and Miss Watson tries to teach Huck a prayer but, he gives up on it after his prayers aren’t answered. Huckleberry Finn also quits Tom’s gang because there is no actual robbing or killing going on. Huckleberry Finn also notices that Tom lies about Arabs and Spaniards so Huckleberry believes that most of Tom’s stories have been lies.
Chapter 4: Huckleberry Finn pays a visit to Judge Thatcher after recognizing boot tracks in the snow. He then heads over to Jim who claims he has possession of a magical hairball from an ox’s stomach. Jim then tells Huckleberry Finn that the hairball requires money to talk. After receiving money from Huckleberry Finn Jim then tells Huck about his future. Huckleberry Finn then finds Pap waiting for him inside his bedroom.
Chapter 5: Huckleberry Finn’s father threatens him. The Widow and Miss Watson tries to earn custody of Huckleberry Finn but, the new judge denies because he refuses to part a father and his son. The judge tries to transform Pap into a better person but, he starts drinking again and gets himself injured.
Compare & Contrast: Huck and Tom are both without two parents and they also are the same age. Huckleberry Finn is intelligent and very adventurous although he likes to stay to himself a lot, can be seen as a decent kid. Tom is Dangerous and lies at a high rate just seems like a bad kid overall.
Description of Jim: Jim isn’t very educated but, is a great story teller. He also wears this necklace which represents him being touched by the devil.
Questions: 1. What happened to Pap to make him act the way he does now? 2. What happened to the rest of Huck’s family?
Good John, try to be even more concise with your summaries while still mentioning all the key ideas. You make some good insights about Huck and Tom, but they have been brought up very differently.
Chapter 1 In Chapter one Huckleberry Finn is introduced and he seems like a troublemaker, and a person that gives adults hard times. He’s a smoker, and lives with the widow Miss Watson, who owns “niggers.” He also has a friend named Tom Sawyer.
Chapter 2 In chapter two Tom Sawyer is introduced and begins causing nothing but bad for Huck. They sneak off into the night with the nigger Jim and got to a secret cave and create their band, the “Tom Sawyer Band.” They come up with ways of robbing people and killing many of the victims, it’s no good, but Huck swears in on Miss Watson’s life.
Chapter 3 In chapter three the gang had planned their first robbery, but after they failed and busted a picnic of children everyone resigned from the band. They hadn’t done any robbing or killing, so it was pointless. Then they began to hope for a genie to have, so they can wish for rich and fame, but genies are myths.
Chapter 4 In chapter 4 Huck had just finished going to school and had little education. One time on the way home Huck saw footprints in the snow leading to the shed and quickly ran to judge Thatcher and gave him six thousand one hundred fifty dollars. The tracks were those of his father and he knew his father would try to take all the money he had, so he acted quick.
Chapter 5 In chapter five Huck’s father tells him he’s no longer able to attend school or try to get any education because no one in his family had ever been educated. He then tried to force all the money out of Huck; however, Huck had given it to judge Thatcher, so the father went their. After the father was arrested for drunken disorderly conduct the judge had a breakfast with him and the father swore to a new improved life.
Questions 1.)Growing up was Huck’s father beaten by his father when he was drunk, so now he acts that way upon Huck? 2.)Huck didn’t hide his money, instead he gave it to judge Thatcher. Why wouldn’t he hide it until his father left? Compare and Contrast (Tom) Tom seems like the more violent one who’s seeking trouble. He was raised in a good home, but doesn’t act as if he did. He’s a leader who wants others to be like him.
(Huck) Huck seems to be a follower. If he things something’s cool or amusing he’ll follow whatever actions are taking place. He seems friendly, but not very respectful. Although his dad was abusive he should’ve used a more respectful tone.
good job, Ronald, at the start of the book, Huck IS a follower, and he usually follows Tom, who you notice isn't really a nice kid. Notice how Huck changes over the course of the book.
Chapter 1 of the book explains how he is being taken care of by Widow Douglas. She teaches him how to dress correctly and do things proper but he doesn’t like to, he wants to do things sloppy and the way he is use to.
Chapter 2 he joins a robbery crew run by Tom Sawyer, Tom sneaks Huck out of his house that they can go to the cave and meet everyone else. Huck decides that she doesn’t like it there anymore and leaves.
Chapter 3 it tells how Huck starts to like going to school and dressing correctly, he starts to act proper and do everything correctly.
Chapter 4 Huck asks Jim can he use his magic hair ball so that he can find out something. Huck’s father shows up in his room and starts to insult him because of how Huck is being proper and living correctly. Huck’s father says that he thinks he’s better than him and he want Huck to stop going to school or he is going to beat him.
Chapter 5 his father says that going to change the way he acts but doesn’t and still gets drunk. Huck’s father threatens the judge so that can tell him that he’ll give him Huck’s money but the judge doesn’t say anything.
These chapters focus mostly on Huck and his connection with other characters throughout the story. Huck’s father kidnapped him and took him into the woods where there was a cabin. Hick is locked in there all day everyday he’s only taken under his father’s supervision, keeping in mind his father had a shotgun always near him. While Huck was locked in the cabin, he cut a hole through the wall. He captured a pig killed him and used it’s blood to put throughout the cabin so it looked like he was murdered. He took a boat and road in a river. Throughout the adventure, he finds Jim the widow’s slave. Jim tells him how they’re planning to sell him so he escaped. They decided to move together. But they noticed that the further along they make their journey to more trouble there is.
As Jim and Huck go further into their journey, it becomes harder. The bounty hunt reward money is become higher and when Huck Finn is in public his male identity becomes more difficult to hide. When a kind enough family brings Huck in, they soon find out that he “capture” Jim now they’re offering money for him. Once, Huck Finn escapes he and Jim find themselves closer than ever. They bond with each other and talk about how society treats them poorly. Jim sees a pattern in Huck Finn’s behavior he notices that he’s resembles Tom Sawyer behavior wise. On a stormy day the raft that the two are floating on gets destroyed and they become separated and later reunited. Jim and Huck are constantly about the slavery issue that’s happening and they become annoyed with each other and the outcome of everything happening.
Chapter 1: Huck feels like Miss Watson and the Widow are harassing him. There simply just trying to teach him new things but he wasn’t that interested in certain things. For example, he doesn’t want to learn about Moses but he is interested in learning how to read. He gets scared when he tries to listen to nature. He decides to take a break and get out the house and Tom is waiting for him outside. Chapter 2: Tom and Huck tried sneaking out of the Widow’s garden they almost got caught by Jim. Jim falls back asleep so they made it out of the garden. Tom and Huck and other people took a boat out to this cave to talk about the name of their gang. Chapter 3: Huck had gotten his clothes dirty and Miss Watson punishes him. She attempts to teach Huck a prayer but, he gives up on it after his prayers aren’t answered. Huck decides he doesn’t want to be apart of Tom’s gang because they're not really doing any killing or robbing. Huck finds out that Tom was lying about Arabs and Spaniards so Huck believes that most of Tom’s words have been lies. Chapter 4: Huck decides to take a visit to Judge Thatcher after seeing tracks in the snow. The track appears to be from a boot. He walks over to Jim who is saying that Huck has some type of hairball that’s magical that came out of an ox’s stomach. Huck gives Jim $6,150 because he knew that the boot tracks were from his father. He knew that if his dad found him he would take all of his money. Chapter 5: In this chapter Huck’s father tells Huck things that aren’t best for him. He tells him he can’t go to school anymore because no one in his family has an education. He attempts to take all of Huck’s money from him but he doesn’t have any of it because he had given it all to Judge Thatcher. Huck’s father went to Judge Thatcher attempting to retrieve Huck’s money. Judge Thatcher arrested his father for drunken disorderly conduct. After Huck’s father was arrested the next day he had breakfast with the Judge and promised him to improve his ways.
Chapter 1: Widow Douglas adopts Huck and gives him new clothes while she tries to teach him to be civilized. She gets help from her sister, Ms. Watson, and they try to about the Bible and God, although Huck just wants to be in his rags and smoke.
Chapter 2: Huck sneaks out his room and meets Tom in trees. They sneak into the widow’s garden and try to sneak past Mrs. Watson’s house, but have trouble because her slave, Jim is next to the kitchen door and hears noises.
Chapter 3: Huck wonders why when he prays, his prayers aren't answered. He also talks about how abusive his father was and people think his father drowned but Huck thinks differently.
Chapter 4: Huck is continuing to get used to being civilized and going school even though he misses his old ways and sleeping in the woods.
Chapter 5: Pap finds Huck and takes his money to buy some alcohol. The widow tries to gain custody of Huck but the new judge doesn’t want to separate the family.
Huck stays in place. He doesn’t want to have to suffer the consequences if anything goes wrong. Tom does whatever he wants to, whenever he wants. He doesn’t really worry about consequences because he doesn’t really have someone that will look out for him. Jim – he’s black and he’s Miss Watson’s slave.
Where’s Tom’s guardian ? Why does Jim has a string around his neck?
Chapter 1: Tom asks Huck to return to Widow Douglas for he can create a band of robbers. While that is happening, Widow Douglas wants to refine Huck into a fine young man but Huck insists of his foolish behaviors.
Chapter 2: Huck sneaks out to help Tom and his robbers endeavors. He tries to sneak past Mrs.Watson's house but are stuck because Jim is waiting by the tree.
Chapter 3: Tom's band of robbers tried to rob their first major attempt but found out it as just a band of little school children. The Band breaks up after the failed attempt and then they think about what would happen if they had a magical genie.
Chapter 4: Huck continues getting his education and going to school. He sees footprints in the snow and gives Judge Thatcher all his money.
Chapter 5: Pap arrives at Widow Douglas's house and takes custody of Huck. The new judge didn't know Pap and didn't want to break the family apart.
Where was Pap before he arrived at Widow Douglas's house? Was it Pap Huck hid the money from?
Jim is a very spiritual African american Man who works for the Widow Douglas but isn’t a slave. He is very built and isn’t very educated.
Huck is the same age as Tom but Tom’s family is Middle-Class while Huck is very poor. Huck follows Tom because he believes his plans are extraordinary.
Chapter 1: In chapter 1 Huck is having a real hard time at home with the widow and Ms.Watson. He tries to connect with the nature. Chapter 2: In chapter 2 this guy made like an underground room, and the guy made a gang or started a gang and Huck joined the gang. They talk about the gang and what their plans are and to join they have to sign into oath with their blood. Chapter 3: In chapter 3 the gang never progressed or acheved anything so Huck left the gang. Also Huck kept praying but stopped because he doesn't believe in it anymore. Also Huck keeps worrying about where his dad is. Chapter 4: In chapter 4 Huck starts going back to school after a while and really starts learning how to read and write better. Huck tries to return the money back to the judge but the judge doesn't take it back and then out of no where his dad was in the room. Chapter 5: In chapter 5 Huck talks to his dad and his dad is telling him that Huck should drop out of school and stop learning how to read and write. So Huck wants to keep learning so the judge tells him to try to make a change in his dad to stop drinking, but he ends up drinking again.

ReplyDeleteChapter 1: Huckleberry Finn, introduces the reader to his personality and way of life.

ReplyDeleteThe Adventures of Huckleberry Finn summaries
ReplyDeleteChapter 1 - Tom Sawyer is forming a band of robbers and would probably let Huck join off he goes back with the widow, so he did.
Compare and Contrast Tom and Huck Finn
(Tom) Believes in sticking strictly to the rules. Very cruel. Brought up in a comfort. Self centered
(Similarities) Same age, Both are parentless
(Huck) Raised with discomfort, Helping, Giving, He makes rules of his own and rebels on what others tell him what to do.
DeleteChap 1- Huck doesn't seem to get along with his aunt. Then Tom Sawyer appears and wants to create a gang.
ReplyDeleteChap 2- Jim was telling stories of how he was being taken by witches and how it almost killed him.

Good job with the summaries. You are able to be brief and stick to the main points. Good question about Huck trying to be like Tom! How else are Huck and Tom different? What else can you say about Jim?
DeleteThis book is about Huckleberry’s adventure which one day Huck, and Tom found a bag of money that the robbers hidden in the cave, and Huck and Tom splitted the money six thousand dollar a piece.
ReplyDelete-2 questions: why didn't Tom and Huck return the money to the police?
-Why did Tom, Huck, and the other kids want to rob people and kill them?
Tom doesn't have parents and Huck have only a father, but Huck does not have a strong relationship with his father, and also Tom could read and write better then Huck.
Jim is guy who likes to tell stories about how he is brave and all that other stuff.
Good job with comparing and contrasting Tom and Huck - you picked up on a couple of key differences. When you write your summaries, do 1-2 sentences per chapter rather than one paragraph for all the chapters.

They try to teach him new things but, he quickly loses interest such as he does with learning about Moses but, does learn how to read. He tries listening to nature but, as he attempts get shivers. Chapter 2:

Tom, Huckleberry Finn and a few others take a boat out to this cave to discuss the name of their gang. To ensure loyalty to Tom Sawyer’s gang the members were forced to sign a blood oath and agree to kill the family of who that reveals secrets of the gang.
Chapter 3:
After Huckleberry Finn gets his clothes dirty he gets punished and Miss Watson tries to teach Huck a prayer but, he gives up on it after his prayers aren’t answered. Huckleberry Finn also quits Tom’s gang because there is no actual robbing or killing going on. Huckleberry Finn also notices that Tom lies about Arabs and Spaniards so Huckleberry believes that most of Tom’s stories have been lies.
Chapter 4:
Huckleberry Finn pays a visit to Judge Thatcher after recognizing boot tracks in the snow. He then heads over to Jim who claims he has possession of a magical hairball from an ox’s stomach. Compare & Contrast:
Huck and Tom are both without two parents and they also are the same age. Huckleberry Finn is intelligent and very adventurous although he likes to stay to himself a lot, can be seen as a decent kid. Tom is Dangerous and lies at a high rate just seems like a bad kid overall.
Description of Jim:
Jim isn’t very educated but, is a great story teller. He also wears this necklace which represents him being touched by the devil.

Chapter 1
In Chapter one Huckleberry Finn is introduced and he seems like a troublemaker, and a person that gives adults hard times. He’s a smoker, and lives with the widow Miss Watson, who owns “niggers.” He also has a friend named Tom Sawyer.
Chapter 2
In chapter two Tom Sawyer is introduced and begins causing nothing but bad for Huck. They sneak off into the night with the nigger Jim and got to a secret cave and create their band, the “Tom Sawyer Band.” They come up with ways of robbing people and killing many of the victims, it’s no good, but Huck swears in on Miss Watson’s life.
Chapter 3
In chapter three the gang had planned their first robbery, but after they failed and busted a picnic of children everyone resigned from the band. They hadn’t done any robbing or killing, so it was pointless. Then they began to hope for a genie to have, so they can wish for rich and fame, but genies are myths.
Chapter 4
In chapter 4 Huck had just finished going to school and had little education. One time on the way home Huck saw footprints in the snow leading to the shed and quickly ran to judge Thatcher and gave him six thousand one hundred fifty dollars. The tracks were those of his father and he knew his father would try to take all the money he had, so he acted quick.
Chapter 5
In chapter five Huck’s father tells him he’s no longer able to attend school or try to get any education because no one in his family had ever been educated. He then tried to force all the money out of Huck; however, Huck had given it to judge Thatcher, so the father went their. After the father was arrested for drunken disorderly conduct the judge had a breakfast with him and the father swore to a new improved life.
Questions
1.)Growing up was Huck’s father beaten by his father when he was drunk, so now he acts that way upon Huck?
2.)Huck didn’t hide his money, instead he gave it to judge Thatcher. Why wouldn’t he hide it until his father left?
Compare and Contrast
(Tom) Tom seems like the more violent one who’s seeking trouble.

DeleteThese chapters focus mostly on Huck and his connection with other characters throughout the story.
