WHST.4 (Writing clear, coherent, organized, & w/purpose)
 W.9 (Use of evidence)
Mastery - Writing has minimal errors (which does not obstruct meaning), has a clear thesis/position    and is supported by evidence. Transitional words/phrases used to move from one idea to another.

a.   Speculate – which form of government does Jones represent? What form of government do you think the animals of Animal Farm have or will create? Provide evidence from book and class. Use evidence such as quotes and characters from the book to support your answer. Keep in mind:
                                                            i.      Who is in charge?
ii.      How did they get in charge?
iii.      What is the role of all of the animals on this “government”.

iv.      If you are having trouble with this question you haven’t read enough. Keep reading and hand in this work next class.

  3. 1. Jones represents a communist dictatorship ( in the eyes of the animals anyway) by forcing his animals to work and live in awful conditions he himself would never be in.

    2. I "think" that animal farm will end up with yet another communist dictator as Napolions lust for power drives him to comite atrocities to secure his place atop the bloodsoaked throne. This is made aparent by the fact Boxer is perfectly ignorient useing the moto Napolion is always right and by the much more obvious fact the pigs sit around wasting days away while everybody works themselves to death building a windmill.

    1. I agree with number 1 because Jones will never work in the conditions that the animals work in on a daily basis

    2. how is this "communist". I am not saying its not, but many large business owners in a capitalist market would not do the work of their workers.

  4. Jones represents a dictator because he has total control over animals live and the work conditions are disgusting plus the animals have no control of their spawns(Children) because Jones sells everything the animals create

  5. Jones represented a Dictatorship government. He was controlling every area of the animals living before the rebellion. That in the story in chapter 2 the animals were hungry and they took the liberty to get food for themselves and Jones came and oppose the action and that is when the rebellion took place. I feel like the animals will create a Representative Democracy to govern by choosing a representative in which they will vote upon to make the laws and actions. Another educated guess based on the spirit of the rebellion they would be radical where they will do what they want with no restrain at all because of the fact that they have been in a cycle of slavery and product and they want total freedom! The role of animals to both parties would be to coexist with some order and to be free at last from the oppressor.

    1. I agree with both of your answers, I also think the animals will start with electing someone to take charge but will soon get out of hand with the excitement of finally being free.

  8. I think Jones represented as a dictator from the way he treats the animals and take everything they had. But I thought of the animals as anarchists in the beginning until they chose a leader. Then I thought they were a bit of a representative democracy, but in the end they're a oligarchy type. Mostly because of the fact that the pigs are pretty much in charge. While the others just follow their rules and orders.

  9. I believe the farmer Jones represented a corrupt socialist society because all resources produced were collected by Jones and handed out equally among the animals but Jones would take twice the amount he was giving to each animal. I feel like the animals are going to have a communist government because the animals a.k.a the workers will rise up and over throw Jones and all the animals will be equal and they will form a classless society because they resent the fact that Jones doesn't do any work but receives all the wealth and goods, and so to balance this they will form a classless society were everybody is equal and the goods and wealth are shared.

  10. Mr. Jones is represented as a dictator because he has absolute power and control you could also say that he is represented as a socialist but the version of socialism portrayed in the book is the corrupt version because him and his men would take more for themselves and would underfeed the animals. The animals want to make a communist society (the kind that works) where there are no classes and wealth is distributed evenly. The animals are upset about Mr.Jones taking more than he needs and they want a society where everyone (besides the human race) lives in a Utopian society.

  12. Mr.Jones represented a socialist because he took everything for himself, kind of like separating himself and the animals into different classes. Jones put the animals on the lowest class sometimes not even feeding them. Even though the animals produced what he needed he was in charge of it.
I think the animals are trying to start a communist society where everyone is being treated equal, but as we can see Napoleon is starting to take control. The animals seem to be transitioning into a dictatorship again.

  13. Jones represents a dictator because he abuses the animal of their power. The animals will have a communist society because they take food from the animals and they keep some for themselves. Napoleon takes the milk and the apples from the animals and he doesn't share with the rest of the animals. Then the animals find out and they say the pigs need the food for their brain because they are making all of the decisions.

  15. Jones represents a dictatorship form of government. A dictatorship is a form of government where one person has complete power over their citizens lives. When Major talks about "Man" or more specifically Jones he describes how he puts the animals to work and gives them back the "bare minimum". I believe when the animals create their society they will make it a communist society because, just like Karl Marx, I think they want the workers to be in charge finally.

  16. Farmer Jones is a dictator in the eyes of the animals. The animals see Jones a s the person who pushes them around and tells them what to do with little of a reward if the job is done well. I say that because on page it says 29 " Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is to weak to pull the plough...". I choose that quote because it shows all the work Jones put them through everyday. I believe that the animals want to make a communist society. I say that because they are the workers and they want to rebell against the rich(Jones) who makes them work for little pay. I say that because on page 30 it says "That is my message to you, comrades: Rebellion! I do not know when that Rebellion will come, it might be in a week or in a hundred years, but I know, as surely as I see this straw beneath my feet, that sooner or later justice will be done." I picked that quote because it means they want the guy in charge gone so they could be their own master. That is the same definition as communist.

  18. a. The form of government in which Jones is represented as would be Dictatorship. He, as a single leader, holds power over the animals f his farm, and takes what they produce as a result of their work, i.e milk from cows.
The animals represent communism, showing that they are the working class, their main desire being to overthrow the bourgeoisie, such as Old Major and snowflake.

    i. Old Major
ii. They believe pigs are the most intelligent, the role being passed to Snowflake in ch. 2
iii.To show the representation of the working class, and the different types of unjust government.

  20. Jones' form of government is represented as a dictatorship. Jones is what would be known as the "leader". He is the one who is in charge of the animals, the food and everything that takes place and happens on his farm. The animals would represent communism because they are working and everything they work for is being taken and taken over by the leader, Jones, For example most of the animals give and produce food for the farm but yet they barely get fed or there is always "limited food" for them. Old Major is in charge at the moment, before he passed. They got in charge because pigs are known to be the smartest animals on the farm. They were chosen because they are the wisest to make the decisions and keep all of the animals safe and make them all feel important at the same time. The role of all of the animals on the farm are to work together to overcome the superior and fight for their rights and what they DO deserve.

  21. I believe that the leader, Jones, represents a dictatorship. Jones is in charge of the animals and he owns the farm. Jones has been taking everything from them. The animals get food and they don't really get fed. The main goal for the animals is to is to work as a team/group to over through the superior and for their rights.

  23. Jones shows dictatorship because he shows absolute control over the other animals. He's the one who everyone listens to. They will have a communist society. Major is the one who is in charge. Major got in charge by using his words and convincing the other animals to agree with him. Squealer is the one spreading propaganda to get everyone on board. Squealer is like the meassager.

  24. Jones represents a dictator as he has complete control over all the animals. The animals view Jones as a person that just orders them around and doesn't reward them for what they have done for him. They will live in a communist society. Major is in charge of all the animals. Major became in charge by using propaganda against all the animals by convincing them to believe everything he says is good for them.

  25. Mr.Jones represents a dictatorship because he has power over the animals in the farm. The animals are living in a commmunist society though. Napoleon is tricking the animals into to more work ad they do not know because they are ignorant. The animals are working more tedious jobs and longer hours but they do not realize it. They go back to see if what he says follows by the commandments they made but can not read so they do not know if it follows what they wrote on the commandments. Napoleon loves power and wants to control all of the animals. The rulers are oppressing the animals but they do not realize that they are being oppressed.

  28. I believe that Jones represents a dictatorship. He had complete control over the farm and benefited from the exploitation of others(animals). He also fully controlled their living and working conditions.

On the other hand, the animals represent a communist government. Napoleon has taken charge over the animals and they have not truly realized it. He has taken charge of their lives through propaganda and persuasion. He has used false promises of happiness and the fear of the return of Man to keep the rest of the animals in check and following his reign.

They are in a communist society. Major step up and became in charge of all the animals. Major became in charge by using propaganda against all the other animals. Major did this by convincing all the animals that everything he says to them is good and that Jones is treating them wrong.

  38. Jones represents Dictatorship government because he had control over all of the animals before the rebellion. During Majors speech, he explaines how Jones works the animals but he doesn't give them back what they deserve. The animals want to be a communist society. Therefore, they're not treated unfair and they're getting the amount of sources they deserve.

  39. I believe that farmer Jones represents dictatorship because he is the only ruler and he gets all of the gain. The role of dictatorship was passed down on to him. The animals are communism because they are the working class and they are trying to take what is their back from the rich people.

  41. Jones represents a dictatorship, because he takes advantage of the other animals, for example he rules over them, and deprives them of food. The pigs corrupt the rest of the animals by saying 'we need more food for our brains, since we're making decisions'.
