Animal Farm (3) Directions: select only 1 level to work on.

Emerging (1) - what is propaganda? Give examples of it today or throughout history.

Proficient (2) - Give examples of propaganda in the book Animal Farm. You may list.

Mastery (3-4) - Why/how is propaganda so effective? When is it used and why in the real world?
How does Squealer use propaganda to spread Animalism and convince the animals that
                           they are being treated fairly?

  1. Propaganda is so effective because it creates an inner emotion withing the reader, receptor of information. For example if i want to talk about child hunger my best propaganda format to get my message across i can create a video with sad background music and images of starving, skinny, sad children in poor countries and then give a voice over of facts and statistics within the presentation of the propaganda. It is used a lot in politics for example presidential candidates can use propaganda towards Donald Trump by taking his words and his image of evil serious face and make him look bad. It is very used in topics and moments that are controversial and two sided and when individuals want to create a specific movement towards that topic or person. Squealer uses propaganda when he told the others animals how the pigs will keep all their apples and milk, in the sense of making the pigs seem selfish equality of distribution is the way to go was the purpose of Squealer propaganda.

  2. Propaganda is effective because it allows the viewer to feel certain emotions. Referring back to Julio's point on the video, if you wanted someone to feel certain emotions and act on what you say you would add certain music and take the bad or good of something and portray it a certain way. This helps in many ways because it allows your viewer to feel a certain way about a situation and want to act on your message. Propaganda can be found in commercials through animal abuse to presidential campaigns it is used in the real world to spread a message and allow viewers to feel a certain way on their topic and respond to it in a commercial so of the main ways your presenter want you to act is through donations.

  3. Propaganda is effective because it lets the reader feel something when they look at a particular thing. Propaganda draws your attention to one viewpoint. For example, the presidential campaign has a lot of propaganda posters. Hillary Clinton has a poster of her posing as Rosie Riveter and that shows that she will stand up for womens rights. Squealer uses propaganda by saying only good things about the pigs so it made the animals feel comfortable with them. Even though the pigs would take all the food Squealer always made it look like they had a reason to do that.

Propaganda is when you promote of make awareness of something. Examples of propaganda are commercials that shown on tv like progressive commercials that say they have the best insurance out of all the insurance companies like geico. Squealer is using propaganda in the book because he tell the animals good things about the pigs so the other animals will feel good in letting the pigs be in charge. I say propaganda is effective because it gives the reader a good perspective so they will also promote that business.

  6. Propaganda is used to portray the Benifits of something and discourage the things that are opposed to their concept

  7. Propaganda is the bias and opinionated information used to encourage a certain point of view. Propaganda is way of having people think and make opinions for you through manipulated advertisement, but people believe it works, and will continue to use. An example of propaganda would be a political figure using an image or visual aid to represent their participation more, even if they didn't do anything. Squealer tried to convince the animals of how them being fed is being treated fairly

  8. Propaganda is, usually biased, information that is used advertise/ promote a political cause or point of view (Dictionary.Reference). Propaganda has been used all throughout history and is still being used today. Propaganda can be traced all the way back to 1920 when Hitler formed the nazi party. He used propaganda to "advertise/promote" his definition of the perfect type of people. He also used propaganda to attack Jews by saying that they were the source of all Germany's problems. Leaders all over the world still use propaganda today. For example, Kim Jong Un uses propaganda on the citizens of North Korea to make their country seem better then it really is. Just like Kim, Squeler used propaganda to make the animals feel like they were being treated more fairly then they actually were.

  9. Propaganda is information used to publicize a specific political cause, or spread rumors to change/influence the opinion of the society. Propaganda is kind of like another way of persuasion because it is having people make opinions based on what they've seen or have heard from "superiors" or "important people" mainly the people who are in charge. An example of propaganda would be "slogans" being repeated or used many times because once you hear it so many times, the public (you) start to believe it. An example from animal farm would be when Squealer calls it a "readjustment" of food instead of a "reduction" of food. Squealer is lying to the other animals by telling them how much food is on the farm, when in reality the food is very limited. He convinced the animals that how they are being treated with the food is "fair" and that what is happening to them is right.

  11. Propaganda is ideas or statements that are often false or exaggerated and that are spread in order to help a cause, a political leader, a government, etc.(Merriam-Webster). Propaganda is other way for people to get there opinions across based on what they hear from higher positions or the person in charge. However an example of propaganda would be how Squeler wanted the animals to know that the way they were being fed is treated equal

  12. Propaganda is information that is used to sell or advertise a political problem. Propaganda has been being used since forever and is still being used today. Propaganda has to come with and opinion/claim with evidence to persuade the audience to agree with your opinion/claim. Squealer uses propaganda by telling the animals good things. Another example would be when Squealer calls it readjustment of food instead of a reduction of food.

  13. Propaganda is false information given to people to convince them to agree to or buy your idea. Propaganda is used in the real world through commercials, ads, posters and media. They provide unrealistic facts to us so that we are prone to their idea. Squeeler uses propaganda in the book by convincing the animals that nothing is wrong with what Napoleon is doing. He's also sugar coating everything that's going on. With him doing this the animals see nothing to fight about.

  14. Propaganda is so effective because it can implant false or usually exaggerated information into people's head and they'll agree with it. It's always been used to promote political actions. Squealer uses propaganda to spread Animalism and convince the animals that they are being treated fairly by saying that there is a growth of production of food, but isn't saying that other animals are dying. Propaganda in this case, is Squealer bringing the light upon a really negative situation.

  16. Propaganda is effective because it uses ideas or statements that are often false or exaggerated towards people to make them agree and believe what's happening in a bad situation is actually a good thing. It's used in the real world through ads, media, politics, etc. Squealer uses propaganda to spread Animalism by convincing the animals that everything is going perfectly fine and Napoleon is doing the right thing for them. By Squealer doing this the animals believe that they have nothing to worry about and no reason to fight against the humans.

  17. propaganda is false information, rumors and ideas that spreads widely to help or harm a group, person or movement. For example, Squealer uses propaganda by telling the animals to spread animalism by teeling them that Napoleon is doing the right thing. Just because Squealer doing that now the animals have no reason to fight the humans.

  18. Propaganda is the use of dramatization, exaggeration, and sugar-coating in order to persuade people to behave or feel a certain way. Propaganda is able to work so well on the farm because Squealer is able to spread Animalism by causing the animals to think that their way is perfect and without error.

  19. Propaganda is a way of misleading or to publicize something specific and usually is false. Propaganda is powerful because it gets into peoples head and spreads widely. Sqeeuler and napoleon used propaganda by convincing the other animals that what they're doing isn't wrong.

  22. Propaganda is incorrect information being told so that they can buy into an idea. Propaganda was used in the book when Old Major told the animal s that the humans are the enemy and that thier lives will be easier with out them. I this is propaganda because Old Major knows the humans did nothing to them but he wants to be a ruler.

  24. Jones represents a dictatorship.I think this because jones has control over everything the animals do and everything that the animals get. They are in a communist society because Major became the leader of all the animals by using propaganda against the other animals. he did this by convincing all the animals that everything he says to them is good and that Jones is doing them wrong, not treating them the way they should be treated because of all that the are doing at the farm for Jones.

  25. Propaganda is so effective because it stirs p an idea and emotions towards anything that is being targeted. Squealer uses propaganda when he made the animals think the pigs were selfish and socialism had to be established.
