You will re-write any section of Raisin in the Sun but it’s
a little bit tricky.
This is a 10th grade
project. This means you will be working
with students from the entire 10th grade. First you have to get into your group, which
you have already determined. Find
everyone who had the same EQ as you did – this is your group. For example, if
your outline answered: What is the American Dream, then everyone in the 10th
grade who selected that EQ is in the same group.
Once you have found your group – use this blog to
communicate with each other. We will be
grading you based on your interactions with each other and what you contribute
to the group. Determine what section you want to re-write and how it will be
written. You will be given 1 opportunity
to meet with your group face to face, so the work you do on the blog is very important. If you choose to work on Google Docs, just let me Davern know and share your doc with msdavern@gmail.com.

Thank you for your post. Do not capitalize each word. Now, find others in your group and tell them your thesis. Everyone should share their thesis statement. Then your group should work on determining whose thesis you want to use. Then work on re-writing. If it helps, Google - Raisin in the Sun PDF and you will find the play on-line. You can copy and paste the section you want to re-write on the blog and your group can start working from there.

I chose this because I felt that this EQ was very approachable and many people have different opinions therefore there are different outcomes, I would like to see other's opinion as well.

Hello, I'm also in your group because I chose "Is the American Dream equally attainable for everyone" My thesis is no it isn't equally attainable for everyone due to institutionalized racism, and discrimination against women and others because of their sexual orientation. I chose this EQ because I felt that the truth about what people have to go through to achieve the American Dream is a lot to deal with and that it should be known. I also chose this EQ because of the different opinions there are about it. Doing my research for my paper I have learned that just because of who they are they can't do what they want. I am looking forward to working with others and listening to their opinions.

DeleteAs for the decision for the thesis, it's pretty obvious that the first part (our opinion) o the thesis is the same ; the American Dream is not equally attainable for everyone. For the statement of specifics, I think we should compare the thesis' and use the most frequent statements of specifics

DeleteAs a member in your group asking myself "Is the American Dream attainable for everyone?" I could state that my opinion is no, the American dream isn't attainable for everyone because of discrimination based on, race, religion, and sexual orientation. This discrimination sometimes deny people homes, jobs, and financial credit. Martin Luther King is able to give his "I Have a Dream" speech which explains how America isn't free and how all men are created equal. Even after America isn't segregated anymore there is still racism and will always be racism, there are certain opinions from the media trying to accuse Obama for being a bad president and sometimes it's because of discrimination towards him. I can therefore conclude the American Dream isn't for everyone because people will always discriminate and not everyone is built to think the same.

I chose this as my essential question because I wanted to see the difference between minorities and non minorities during the American Dream. From my reading I was able to learn how white privilege played a big role in this because it shows how whites have advantages while other races struggle to get the American Dream; This was also demonstrated in the “I have a dream speech”.

My statement of specifics were people are not able to have the same luxury as another man could have due to their race, immigrants are often discriminated against due to their race, and religion, and my final statement of specific was police officers think that they have the right to question (frisk) somebody just because they’re African American or Latinos. The reason I chose these statements of specifics was because these problems like racism and discrimination still occur in modern society today. I learned many of the disadvantages that African Americans and Latinos have in America.

The American Dream is not equally attainable for everyone, because people are denied the essentials based on their sexual orientation,people are treated unequally based on their race and women are discriminated against.
I selected these statements of specifics because they are the first things that I thought about once given the EQ they proved to support my thesis very well also. I learned about Redlining, Institutional Racism, that there are 38 states that have not passed laws that prohibit credit discrimination based on sexual orientation. I also learned that because women lacked the vote and therefore political power,they were denied many opportunities open to men.

My thesis is,"The American Dream is not equally attainable because the past reflects on the present, still making problems." My statement of specifics were, "How does race keep you from the dream? How does redlining connect to the American dream? Banks can block the attainability." I selected these because it shows the after effects that are still left till this day. I learned how the bank now aren't as much as a problem as self worth a lot of people think they are obligated to stay in certain areas.

My thesis is the American dream is not the same for all people because there is still discrimination for certain groups such as the LGBT and African Americans. My statement of specifics are ,In the first place, people would have to fight for their equality, furthermore the American dream is a shameless hypocrisy by our government and lastly the American dream only applies to Americans fitting the ideal image of being wealthy, white, while living in the suburbia and being straight. I selected these statement of specifics because I feel they answered the question the best about how it doesn't pertain to everyone. It’s only pertaining to certain groups leaving out others that don’t apply. Something that I learned is that the American dream is not equal for everyone and wasn't made to be equal for everyone. If you think about it everyone was made different and from the various reading I read the text is portraying that being different is a bad thing or it is not good enough because people of such don’t have the American dream. They have to fight for their equality just because of who they are. Also I learned that equality has went far past race but also gender quality and more. We as a society are realizing that the life to liberty and the pursuit of happiness within the American dream are not being uphold and that it is time for change because we are still cashing insufficient funds. ReplyDeleteMy essential question is "Do We Need the American Dream?" My thesis is that we do need the American Dream for everyone. My statement of specifics are, "People think we actually need the American Dream," "Throughout the years, the dream has changed for everyone," and "People will continue their lives whether or not we achieve the American Dream. The reason I chose this essential question is because a lot of people have different opinions on whether or not we need the American Dream. So I would like to figure out what amount of people say we do need the American Dream and what amount of people say we don't need the American Dream. I learned that many people think we do need the American Dream, they think that having a dream makes American great. If anyone doesn't have this essential question, can someone please include me into their group.

My three S.O.S were instatutionize racism, white privilege puts other at an advantage, and people are denied opportunities because there gender.
